Trbovlje municipality is a part of the Zasavje development region. It extends on 58 km2. According to the area the Trbovlje municipality ranks 122nd place among all the Slovenian municipalities.

  • As of 1.7.2025 the municipality had about 16.019 inhabitants (7.985 men and 8.034 women). On a square kilometre of the municipality area lived an average 275 inhabitants. So the population density in the municipality is higher than in the whole Slovenia (105 inhabitants per km2).
  • In the year 2024 the number of live births was lower than the number of deaths. Natural increase per 1000 inhabitants was negative, -6,1 (in Slovenia -2,2). The number of those who have moved out of the municipality, was lower than the number of people who have moved into the municipality. In the year 2024 net migration per 1.000 inhabitants in the municipality was positive, amounted to 6,3. The sum of natural increase and net migration per 1.000 inhabitants in the municipality was positive, 0,2 (in Slovenia 3,2).
  • In the year 2024 the average age of residents was 46,9 years, higher than the average age of people in Slovenia (44,3 years).
  • The data for the year 2024 show that among the municipality residents the number of elderly - as in the majority of Slovenian municipalities – was higher than the number of young people: per 100 people aged 0 to 14 years lived 204 people, aged 65 or more. This ratio shows that the value of the municipalities aging index is higher than the value of the Slovenian aging index (which was 150). This means that the average age of the inhabitants of this municipality is increasing faster than the Slovenian average. Data broken down by gender show that the value of the ageing index in most Slovenian municipalities (with the exception of nine) was higher for women than for men. There were more women aged 65 or over in the municipality than girls under 15; the picture was the same for men.
  • The data for the year 2024 show that in the municipality 5 kindergartens are operating and were attended by 481 children. Of all the children, aged 1 – 5 years, in the municipality, 83 % of them attend kindergarten, which is the same as in all kindergartens in Slovenia combined (83 %). The local elementary schools in the school year 2024/2025 educated about 1.300 pupils. Various secondary schools were attended by about 540 pupils. Among 1.000 inhabitants of the municipality there were on average 26 students and t new graduates; the national average was 39 students and 8 new graduates per 1,000 population.
  • The data for the year 2024 show that among people aged 15 to 64 years (ie. Working age population) approximately 68 % are employed or self-employed (ie. Employment), which is less than the Slovenian average (70 %).
  • The data for the year 2024 show that average monthly salary (gross earnings) per person, employed by legal persons, were in the municipality about 2 % lower than the annual average monthly salary (gross earnings) in Slovenia and in net earnings also about 2 % lower.
  • The data for the year 2024 show that every second person in the municipality had a car (531 cars per 1000 inhabitants); the cars were on average 11 years old.
  • During the year 2024 the municipality collected 394 kg of municipal waste per capita, which is 18 kg higher to the Slovenian average.
